Honoring "The Men Who Built America"
America, in all it's greatness, has experienced a great deal
of change throughout the past 150 years. The post Civil War era pushed a
global industrial revolution to new extremes and laid the foundation for a
modern era. Technology, innovation and power are not possible to reach in
the absence of creative minds that relentlessly push to new limits; achieving
greatness in the process. The Men Who Built America series from
the History Channel outlines the achievements and lives of some of America's
most amazing, interesting, and competitive men. These are the men who
made America capable of becoming an economic and industrial super power.

In your group, you will be assigned one of these individuals to research using the links provided. Once you have developed an in depth understanding of what elements you want to focus on, your group will create an honorary presentation commemorating this individual's life in a way that demonstrates the invaluable contributions and unique character of these men. Through the use of visuals, keynote speakers, video, music, art, and speech, your group will proudly honor one of these men. Lastly, you must create something visual to present as a medal, award, statue, work of art, or anything tangible that you can think of, to present or unveil before the audience to commemorate The Men Who Built America.
While researching, here are things to consider and look for that might guide your research and project:
Group Expectations: Once you have developed an individual contribution to the honorary ceremony, your group will be responsible for unveiling or presenting something to commemorate the icon you are honoring. A model bridge for Carnegie, maybe a key for Ford, a conductor’s hat for Vanderbilt, whatever you can think of! If you would rather, you can present an award to the descendants and family in the form of a trophy or medal.

Presidential Research Project
The president of the United States of America holds the highest office in our country. He has many responsibilities. The President acts as the head of his political party, the chief representative of the government, and the country's popular leader. He is considered the country's chief executive. He develops federal policies, prepares national budgets, enforces federal laws, and appoints federal officials. The President is the commander of the armed services. He is responsible for keeping the country safe and strong both in wartime and during peaceful periods. The President must direct foreign policy, appoint ambassadors, make treaties, and meet with foreign leaders. The President influences the development and passage of laws. But his support does not guarantee that a law will be instated. Also, the President has the power to veto any bill that has been passed by Congress.
